been totally digging on the band Gomez for a day or so. i’d heard their stuff, but never knew who it was. very good stuff.
anyhow.
if you’ve followed my wife’s blog, you know about the ingested coinage incident. sammy last saturday swallowed a dime. since it had been almost a week and we hadn’t seen it ‘reappear’ yet, we thought we should get him checked out just to be safe. of course, a deposit was made into his diaper account merely an hour after the doctor visit. thanks to high deductible insurance plans, we’re going to feel the pain of that one. i call sam my human slot machine now.
took the girls on a ‘date’ to the mall yesterday. it was one of those epic father/daughter moments… browsing through the little jewelry/accessories stores, trying to mentally block out the strains of hannah montana that fill the air while simultaneously showing interest in the 48th different hair tie that has been proclaimed ‘the prettiest one yet’. we browsed several stores, bought a couple things, and generally just enjoyed our time together.
then we came home, and since this was ‘kids get to hang out with dad day’, i took a voucher i got for free tickets (by shopping at the thrift store! yay for cheap pants!) to the Colorado Crush game. arena football isn’t exactly the same as ‘normal’ football… it’s a weird kind of mutant sort of football. but it was fun. we drove downtown, parked in the garage by espnzone, and walked over to pepsi center. we took our nosebleed seats (fortunately, no noses were literally bleeding today), and munched on some smarmy nachos while we watched the game. we then walked back into downtown, grabbed a couple slices of cheesecake for priscilla, then drove home.
things that were good:
- hanging out with my kids
- sammy safely ‘eliminating’ the dime
- watching a sporting event
things that were not so good:
- the imending x-ray bill
- tummy ache from eating at
kung fu panda panda express at the mall.
- being distracted by a car driving laterally across the parking garage toward the exit and clipping a pillar, thus mangling up one of the doors on our passport pretty good
and finally, photos from the game (sam calls them the ‘colorado crunch’ – SO CUTE).

so i was out in boulder on november 1st, and my northwest ways die hard. it felt chilly in the house, so i wore long sleeves, a jacket, and a stocking cap. as i drove up there, it seemed to warm up, so i took off the stocking cap, smiled at the sunshine and donned my sunglasses. i spent the next couple hours outdoors, walking/chatting with a friend who happened to be in boulder at the same time.
i came home with my head sporting a nice shade of pink. yes, my friends, in colorado, you can sunburn in november. it was just snowing a few days ago, but that doesn’t stop it from being sunny and 70 today! this bright sun, temperatures bobbing from the low 30s up to the upper 60s in one day will take some getting used to. i’m accustomed to having settled in for the 6-month dreary gray hibernation period by now.
the broncos got a good ol’-fashioned country ass-whoopin’ laid on them yesterday. the media here is getting pretty vicious, as well they should. this team is bad, and shows no signs of getting better. things are a bit bumpy in bronco-land. so nick and i went to the avalanche game saturday night. it was fun… but the avs lost. for bonus points, please caption the above picture taken at the avs game.
it’s one of those weeks where i actually have plenty to do, i just managed to lose my motivation to get any of it done. perhaps i left my motivation in my other pants. or maybe it just seems like every day is a day i should be out enjoying the weather.
we’re ever so close to having our holiday travel plans set. Monster Family Northwest Tour 2007 — get ready. maybe we’ll make t-shirts or something.

5 days between blog posts is better than 30, yes?
tomorrow marks an occasion colorado has never seen… the rockies (baseball team, not the mountains) play in the national league championship series. i think they match up pretty well against the diamondbacks of arizona… thing is, they’re both young, exciting teams… it could be intense, world-class baseball, or it could all fall apart and get ugly for either side real quick. we’ll see. what’s funny, is that the week we moved here in may, when the season was young and rocks still sucked, we went to a game against the d-backs. little did we know. it feels weird to be looking ahead, and so against the philosophy of this team, but we’re sending nick to stand in line for the lottery for world series tickets next week… it seems silly to be trying so hard to get tickets to a series they haven’t even made it to yet, but this is big time. i’ve always wanted to go to a world series game, and this could be the chance.
in other news, we’re heading back to eagle on sunday. it should be tons of fun… although i’ve not been super diligent on preparing a message for sunday morning. i need to get on that. like today.
